Buster the Well-Read Border Terrier

Buster came in to see us recently suffering from itchy skin. Our vet, Nicola, took a skin scrape from his face to check for parasites and we were very surprised to find a book louse (Liposcelis bostrychophilus)! They are often found in book bindings and along the edges of pages, where they feed on fungus causing damage to the book. We have never found one on a dog before. Buster must be a very well-read border terrier to have book lice in his beard!
