The Grass Isn’t Always Greener...

Carter is the second dog we have seen in the last 6 months who has eaten whole packets of cat food pouches!
Carter came to the Hospital 24 hours after eating an empty pouch of cat food – yes the foil pouch, NOT the cat food!
Carter was feeling very sorry for himself, vomiting and unable to keep his dinner or breakfast down.
The decision was made to X-ray Carter under sedation to see if we could visualise the pouch. Unfortunately for Carter w...e couldn’t see the pouch at all on X-ray, but knowing that he had definitely eaten it and hadn’t vomited it up or passed it in his faeces, the decision was made to take Carter to surgery to explore his abdomen and find the offending sachet.
The cat food pouch was found, stuck in Carter’s stomach. A Gastrotomy (incision into the stomach) was carried out and the pouch was retrieved in its entirety.
Carter had an uneventful recovery and was reunited with his owners at home within 24 hours.
Hopefully he’ll learn that cat food isn’t better than his own dog food.
